Speaker:

🎤 Rachel So, PhD Student in Earth Sciences
Talk: A Biomarker Investigation of Climate at Utah Lakes with Changing Hydrology Over Recent Glacial Cycles

I’m a 4th year PhD candidate in the Department of Earth Sciences studying paleoclimate using biomarkers, compounds made by organisms that can act as indicators of past environmental conditions. My current research is on variations in the western US hydroclimate over recent glacial cycles. Water availability is a major concern in the western US today and understanding how hydroclimate changed during recent natural climate variations can provide clues to how it will respond to near-future climate change.
🎤 Ryan Bena, PhD Student in Aerospace & Mechanical Engineering

Talk: Bee++: A Flying Micro-Robotic Insect

Ryan Bena is a 5th year PhD student in the Dynamic Robotics and Control Laboratory at USC. His research focuses on the development of novel safety-critical control techniques for micro-aerial vehicles.
